Getting married abroad can be amazing and a very romantic experience. It's a great chance to get away and have a wedding that your friends won't have had.

Tying the knot abroad is great but it can cause a whole heap of headaches if you don't do it properly. Here are my 7 top tips for getting married abroad.

Get Legally Married In The UK

This may sound pointless but laws in other countries can vary massively and you may not even be allowed to get married in another country. The legal process can be quick and simple just to get it out of the way before you get on the plane to have your wedding.

Experience The Country

Where you can, use local suppliers. Local food is an obvious one but flowers and decor can be wonderful additions to really experience your country of choice. Of course, this isn't an option for all suppliers. Perhaps you want an English photographer who understands you as well as other suppliers who will be interacting with your guests, such at the entertainment.

Get A Wedding Planner

This will is the single most important piece of advice I can give. Especially if you can find one who is used to arranging weddings abroad. They will know all the ins and outs of planning a destination wedding.

Think About The Weather

The number #1 reason for getting married abroad is the weather. If you want to get married in Greece, make sure you go when the weather is actually good, not because it's cheap!

Don't Forget Wedding Insurance

You'll need different insurance if you get married abroad. Make sure it covers everything, especially things that can get lost in transit.

How Will You Get It There?

Whatever you plan on decorating your venue with you need to think about the logistics of getting it there. It's not always easy, or cheap, to get things abroad. If you've purchased fairy lights you need to get them there safely and legally.

Keep Your Budget Loose

Make sure you have money left over, you never know what you might need it for. You need to account for things like venue visits and getting some guests out there.

A destination wedding can be great and can even save you some money but if you don't do it right it can cost so much more. Use these tips to keep your plans going strong and you will have a wedding to be envious of and one you can actually enjoy
