Weddings are supposed to be the most important day of your life. The last thing you want is to have regrets about it.
This is the perfect opportunity to learn from other brides.
73% of brides regret not giving enough attention to (or investing enough money in) the entertainment for their wedding day.
This isn’t a made up statistic. It’s from a survey done by Bride Magazine. I think there’s a very good reason for this, and it’s not just because I am an entertainer! If you’ve been listening to my weekly wedding planning podcast then you’ll know I stand by the theory that people only really remember 2 things about an event:
Hopefully the food will be great. Most venues these days take care of the food, so that’s one tick taken care of. If they don’t, I can recommend some incredible caterers for your wedding day. Just drop us an email and I’ll be happy to help.
That then leaves you with ‘the funny’. This is a difficult one to get right. How much should you spend on your entertainment? Most budgeting apps, excel spreadsheets and blogs say 10% of your budget should be dedicated to your entertainment.
When you look at a wedding you can certainly see why people say that. There are so many things to pay for that it can be hard to get that balance right.
My opinion though, and this isn’t just because I’m a wedding magician, is that you should put as much as you can into your entertainment. After all, without the entertainment you run the risk of your guests getting bored.
I’m sure you’ve been to weddings where you’ve been sat during the drinks reception, waiting for the food to come out, and the bridal party to get back from taking pictures. It can really drag on, and that’s what people remember. Entertainment will be the thing that keeps your guests happy, smiling and chatting while the drink line is long and you’re off having your photos done.
Getting Your Wedding Entertainment Right
The question then becomes, how do you get the right entertainment for your wedding day?
Most people, wrongly, assume that magic is cheesy and tacky. Now, there are some magicians that fall into that category but many others, including myself, elevate ourselves above that level. I know that magic isn’t for everyone, but for those who are looking for magical wedding entertainment will know exactly what they want and where they can find it (hint, hint!)
Where to Meet Entertainers for Your Wedding
A wedding fair is a great place to meet potential entertainers because you get to see them in the flesh and get a feel for what they do and how they work. If you can’t meet them in person make sure they are prepared to talk on the phone. The great thing about entertainers is that they are entertaining, at least they should be, no matter where or how you interact with them!
Your wedding entertainment will leave a lasting impression on your guests, you want to make sure you like them! If they are shying away from the phone there’s probably a reason and should be met with a certain amount of caution.
I would argue the best place to find your entertainment though, is at another event. It doesn’t have to be a wedding, it could be your companies Christmas party or a birthday party. This way you get to see exactly how they would work on your wedding day.
Another Way to Find the Best Entertainer for Your Wedding
You should also pay attention to the amount of content they release. If they never blog or offer advice I would be weary as that can be because they don’t have the experience you require.
That’s part of the reason I offer a weekly blog post, as well as a weekly wedding planning podcast. I want you to know that I am an expert in the field of wedding entertainment.
As I said at the start of this article, 73% of brides wish they’d spend more time and money on the entertainment, don’t be part of the 73%!
Until next week,
